Had to accompany a friend to Jalan Bangkung just to check on something,... but we saw the lunch set at Opus bistro and decided to stick around to try it out. :)
The Set Lunch is very decently priced, and for RM 26++, you get a choice of a starter, a main and a dessert.
- Starter:
Salad or soup of the day.
- Main:
Choice of:
Pasta (primi) - Linguini funghi carbonara, or Spaghetti pancho
Pizza - Scallop pizza olio
Fish - Pan fried snapper with tartare sauce
Chicken - Breaded pan fried chicken fillet with chili tomato sauce
Beef - Mini sirloin steak
- Dessert:
Fresh fruits platter or cake of the day.
It wasn't packed inside the restaurant, but there were (what I thought was) a surprising amount of people considering this is a pretty quiet part of Bangsar. Still, it was cosy and comfortable, as it always has been all these years:
As we sat there, I reminisced about how often I used to come here with my (now no longer) special someone, long ago... till the waiters pretty much recognized us... but anyway, that's pretty much ancient history, right?
(Sorry, I got distracted...)
First up, the starter - cold chicken salad:
(They were serving pumpkin soup that day and neither of us ordered it because we don't like pumpkin)
It was a quite a small serving (but just nice as a starter lah), with the crunchy fresh greens topped with slices of fairly tender chicken and a simple vinaigrette dressing.
We were both feeling carnivourous that day so we tried the mini sirloin:
Here's a look at the steak up close :)
Overall, again the serving wasn't very big, but just nice for lunch (and also considering the reasonable price!).... and thankfully the steak was pretty tender and the sauce was delicious - peppery without being overpowering.
As for dessert, we decided to go in opposite directions - one healthy....
... and one, not so healthy:
Guess which one is mine? :) :)
Haha... I couldn't resist! I love chocolate...
Unfortunately, the cake (called Death by Chocolate) was only just ok.... with a slight flour-y aftertaste which degraded the overall flavour of the cake. :(
The fruits were yummy though - I know it's simple but they were all fresh and sweet so they were nice. :)
So, it's: Decently priced lunch set at a veteren restaurant in Bangsar, relatively easy to find parking, comfortable ambience BUT nothing really bad to say, except don't expect the servings to be gigantic, ok? The price is so reasonable for the Bangsar area....

Set lunches are pretty reasonable... But I agree with you, the death by chocolate here isn't very good. Could it be that it was kept in the display for too long?
ReplyDeletei remember just heavenly supplies the cakes (those days), not sure about now.
ReplyDeletefood has always been ok but not incredibly outstanding.
to bangsar babe:
ReplyDeleteI suspect you're right, BB.....
I was already thinking that it's so strange for the cake to be almost finished by lunch time (I got the last slice)... so maybe it was left over from dunno when. :(
to "Joe" who is constantly craving":
Yup... but I guess consistency is a bonus - At least you know you can expect a decent meal there (albeit it not being fantastic)....
:)
I would have expected the DEATH By Choc to be something of extraordinary temptation. Hmm, guess name can be deceiving huh?
ReplyDeleteJ had the fruits!? I didn't think so ... Heh heh!
