Disease, love and double standards....
I am busy but I insist on posting this up quickly (to get my 2 cents about this musical out). So... what does this mean?
Well, it means that I hope you don't find this post too badly written.
:)
- Adam Poster:
Last Saturday, me, Jolyn and Pat ventured to the Actor's Studio in Lot 10 to watch Adam the Musical.
It's a Malaysian musical (rare!) that revolves around AIDS - it's not a light topic as you can guess, but somehow the musical managed to keep it at a pretty good mix of reality (heavier songs like "We Are Alive") vs. whimsy (fairly lighthearted songs like "Zap Zap Zap").
- Opening speech by the head of the MAC (Malaysian Aids Council):
Overall, it was definitely worth watching...
Although the storyline could have been a little better structured, I liked most of the songs, and absolutely LOVED some of them.
(The Wheelchair song was amazing!)
- The first act:
In short (IMHO):
Adam is a really, really good effort so please go watch it! :)
(I can't wait to watch/ hear more from these talented people in future...)
Here are the details of the play:
ADAM THE MUSICAL:
Director: Joe Hasham OAM
Writer: Mark Beau de Silva
Music & Lyrics: Lim Chuang Yik & Teng Ky-Gan
Synopsis:
“Do you know, the first day he met you, his face was shining like a moon… He laughed at me, hold my hands, look into my eyes, with a smile, and I know, maybe this boy don’t need me anymores?"
... sung by Auntie Noni in ADAM (played by Faridah Merican)
Wedding preparations fill the air as Adam and Sylvia look forward to a lifetime together. But the preparations are not smooth sailing...
Sylvia spirals down an emotional roller coaster, as her inability to believe how lucky she has been to find Adam now is confirmed. She moves through friends, family, and strangers - their stories of life, death, and surviving provide comfort, horror, and love.
Adam is about the dangerous time we live in, of suspicion and fear of people and things we don’t know. It is about compassion and strength, and how these qualities can turn the bleakest days into one with light, even if it is just a faint one.
Adam is about finding true love, and knowing that we can be very lucky after all.
